Gematria is an ancient form of cryptography used to interpret words and phrases numerically. The most common type of gematria calculator today is the Hebrew Gematria calculator, which is used to calculate the numerical equivalents of Hebrew words and phrases. The use of a Gematria calculator can help interpret Biblical passages as well as Kabbalistic teachings, as well as providing insight into a person's life path.
When using a Gematria calculator, you enter the Hebrew word or phrase you wish to interpret. The calculator will then assign a numerical value to each letter in the phrase according to a preset code. This code is known as an alphanumeric cipher and assigns numbers between 1 and 400 (or up to 1000 in some cases) to each letter of the Hebrew alphabet. By adding together the numerical values of each letter in a word or phrase, you arrive at the gematric value for that phrase or word.
For example, if you enter the word 'love' into the Gematria calculator, it would assign numerical values of 30, 6, 10 and 400 for each letter respectively. Adding these up would result in a total gematriach of 446. By interpreting this value directly from its numerical form (446) or by breaking it down into its component numbers (4 + 4 + 6 =14), we can gain further insight into ourselves and our relationships with those around us.
In addition to providing insight into deeper meanings within scripture and kabbalah, gematriach calculations can also be used as Divination tools which provide guidance and direction towards certain outcomes or situations in life. Knowing which numbers correspond with certain characters or words provides an individual with knowledge that they can use when making decisions about their career paths, relationships or other important life choices.
